*****URGENT!*****

Call your Elected Officials TODAY!

The General Assembly and Governor have one more day to come to an agreement on the state budget for FY 16 which begins on July 1st.  Without a budget, essential services will no longer be provided by the state. Important programs that working families depend on will shut down. Parents will not be able to find child care so they can work. The child care infrastructure – the countless community based providers who provide child care in Illinois - will rapidly collapse. Jobs will be lost. The economy will begin to suffer as a result, and most importantly, children will be at even greater risk.

On top of the budget mess, Governor Rauner has also proposed programmatic cuts to child care that are set to take effect on July 1st – such as higher parent co-payments, and a waiting list for child care assistance program, the first in our state’s history. It is clear that the Governor does not understand the realities of low-income families in Illinois and the devastating impact these changes will have on their lives.

Call your State Representative, State Senator and Governor TODAY!  Tell them they must work together to find a budget resolution by Wednesday, July 1st.

Tell your state legislators:

1.  Tell them who you are:  Your name, your neighborhood/city and child care location.

2.  For parents:  Without a budget, my child care is in jeopardy.  Without child care, I cannot go to work knowing my child is in a safe, nurturing place.

For Providers: Tell them you ARE the turnaround agenda for Illinois families - helping families work and children learn every day! Tell them how many families you serve, how many people work at your program and that you cannot continue to serve families without the assurance of continued funding for the Child Care Assistance Program.

3.  Please work with the Governor to find a fair budget solution with adequate revenue to pay for vital services like child care that is good for children, good for families and good for a strong Illinois economy.
